Welcome to Petrolia Dental in Edmonton

Dental Clinic in Edmonton

We thank you for considering Petrolia Dental Clinic in Edmonton as your destination for overall dental care. We value all of our existing patients, and strive to make newcomers feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. If you’re new to our dental office, you may find it helpful to read about our new patient process below so you’ll know what to expect when you visit with us for the first time. We look forward to caring for your dental health in the near future.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

On your arrival at our office you will be greeted with a smile. Our friendly receptionist will help you in completing registration paperwork, including new patient forms. For your convenience, you may also download, print and fill out new patient forms here before arriving for your appointment.

If you’d like us to file insurance claims on your behalf, you’ll have the chance to provide our receptionist with your insurance information at this time. We will help you submit forms to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please note, however, that payment for treatments is still due on the day of your appointment. Once you have completed all the required paperwork, a dental assistant will gather your medical and dental information so that one of our dentists may perform a complete new patient dental examination.

What Happens During a Dental Examination?

A number of things will happen during your new patient dental exam. One of our dentists will conduct a variety of checks and exams, not only on your teeth but also on the health of your entire mouth, simultaneously assessing your risk factors for diseases. The following procedures will make up your thorough dental examination:

Tooth and Gum Examination
Our dentist will thoroughly inspect your teeth from every angle to detect cavities, fillings that may need replacement, or tooth enamel that may be worn in certain areas. She will also inspect your gums to make sure you don’t show signs of developing periodontal gum disease.

Oral Cancer Screening
A thorough oral cancer screening will be performed on every new patient. Preventing the life-threatening disease or detecting it early is essential, not only for optimal oral health, but to one’s overall health as well. We will carefully inspect your mouth, lips, gums, cheeks, and throat for any irregularities.

Head and Neck Examination
A quick head and neck exam is necessary – including inspection of the skull where the jaw bones meet – as it may help us diagnose TMJ disorder or other occlusal (bite) problems.

Cleaning and Treatment
A thorough teeth and gum cleaning is usually performed after your examination, along with any minor dental treatments such as cavity fillings.

Most new patient dental examinations and cleanings take 90 minutes, although some patients may need more time.

Lifelong Oral Health Care at Our Edmonton Dental Office

After your first appointment is complete, our dentists in Edmonton may discuss suggested treatment options if there are any problems, and otherwise tell you when you should make an appointment for your next dental cleaning and checkup.
